ST. CROIX — Thousands came out to play mas Wednesday morning on St. Croix for what some have hailed as one of the island’s best j’ouvert morning experiences. The reason for the high label? People appeared to have had more fun than ever before, loosening up themselves to the music of deejays and bands, as they relegated the worries of life to the lonely corners of their minds for at least one day of the year. The event took place in the town of Frederiksted.
There were a number of j’ouvert troupes, which sees participants paying a fee to get exclusive service, including drinks, select artists and deejays, t-shirts, mugs, among other items. Although j’ouvert troupes made a comeback on St. Croix during the 2017-18 festival season, this year’s participation was greater and more vibrant. Also on the road were bands, among them Hypa-Aktiv Crew and Fusion Band.
The event started at about 4:30 a.m. with the j’ouvert troupes, followed by the bands at about 6:00 a.m. It ended at about 9:00 a.m.
