Man Who Anticipated Low Bail Charged with Felony After Assault on Ex-Girlfriend

ST. CROIX — Elroy Tonge, who brazenly predicted that his bail would only amount to $1,000 after an assault, found his words holding true. Tonge is now facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend during a confrontation at her apartment. He had urged her to call the police, citing the low bail amount for domestic violence cases. According to court documents, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an assault on the night of May 15. Responding officers made contact with a woman who said that her ex-boyfriend had forced his way into her apartment and stolen a gold chain from around her neck, as well as her mobile phone. She told officers that the man, Elroy Tonge, had called earlier in the day to say that he would be coming to drop off paperwork for the woman’s vehicle.
