Licensed Gun Owner Suffers Self-Inflicted Injury at Festival Village

ST. CROIX — An accidental discharge of a firearm occurred on Sunday evening at Festival Village’s Coney Island area, prompting a swift response from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD). According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the incident happened around 9:53 p.m. on December 29. According to the report, a licensed firearm owner suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his right calf. The man, who was on a ride with his minor child at the time, told authorities that the discharge occurred while he was adjusting his firearm holster, which was in an Appendix Carry position. EMS transported the individual to the Emergency Room for treatment. At the scene, a Crime Scene Technician (CST) recovered the firearm, a Canik MC9 9mm, along with a spent shell casing.
