It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Alma Bonelli Ottley. She passed away peacefully in her home in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on January 20, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ottley was preceded in death by her husband, the late Senator Earle B. Ottley and her daughter, Patrice Ottley-Scarbriel. She is survived by her children, Dianne Maharaj, Judith Ottley, Earle Lawrence “Larry” Ottley and Linda Ottley; her grandchildren, Kira Hoston, Earle “Balmick” Maharaj, Kuanza Ra Martinez, Alfonso Williams Jr, Dante Williams, Jayson Scarbriel, J’nelle Scarbriel-Reddick, Junea Ottley and Ty Danet; great grandchildren, Kamau Hoston, Elijah Bell, Kaelin Hodge and Keyanna Hazel; great great grandchildren, Sa’Rya-Monee Minniefield and Sa’Nyah Minniefield; brother, Arthur Boneli; sisters, Una Blyden and Doris Bonelli; special nephews and nieces, Evans Harrigan, Gary Bonelli, Basil Ottley Jr., Yvelle Harrigan, Lynette Milliner-Pilgrim, Linda Milliner-Pilgrim, Jhade Pilgrim, Dawn Lenhardt-Samura, Lisa Lenhardt, Kim Wallace Thomas, Kathryn Wallace Boschulte, Winefred Harrigan; Godson, Clifton Finch; special friends, Bernice Gomez, Eva Donovan, Eleanor Blyden, June Von Holten, Pastor Themba Mkhabela and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Alma Ottley’s Memorial Service will be held at Frederick Lutheran Church on Thursday February 12, 2026, at 10:00 am. Her ashes will be interred in the tomb that holds the ashes of her late husband, the Honorable Earle B. Ottley located in the garden of the V.I. Legislature.
