Invest 91 L Becomes Tropical Depression 9; Weather System To Remain South Of Territory

Invest 91 L became tropical depression Nine earlier today as it continues to trek westward toward the Lesser Antilles at 17 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour, according to the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency (V.I.T.E.M.A.). The National Weather Service is forecasting the weather system will remain well south of the US Virgin Islands, with no effects anticipated except for locally higher seas. According to the National Hurricane Center, morning satellite imagery shows the low pressure system, centered at about 550 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, had become better organized overnight. Buoy data also indicated that the circulation was becoming better defined and environmental conditions appeared generally conducive for development.
