Commissioner Richards Fires Hector And Foy; Winsbut McFarlande, Jason Marsh Become Acting Chiefs

ST. CROIX -- A major shakeup within the Virgin Islands Police Department has resulted in the firing of St. Croix Police Chief Arthur Hector, Sr. and St. Thomas Police Chief Darren Foy, The Virgin Islands Consortium can confirm. The changes come as violent crime has been unrelenting in the territory, with gun crimes being reported in both districts every week. In St. Croix, Winsbut McFarlande has been made acting chief of Police, while Jason Marsh has been given the same position in St. Thomas. Police Commissioner Delroy Richards spoke with this publication via telephone. "We obviously assess the V.I.P.D.'s organizational structure and decided that it was time to make some modifications, and those modifications were done," Mr. Richards said. "I think that whenever decisions are made, they are made after careful deliberation that the department needs to move in a different direction."
