Woman Arrested For Unlicensed Firearm Possession During Robbery Investigation

ST. CROIX — V.I.P.D. officers on Wednesday arrested a woman for possession of an unlicensed firearm, an arrest police say was made while they were investigating a robbery incident. According to police spokesman Toby Derima, on Wednesday at roughly 6:27 a.m., police arrested Omolara N. Simmonds, age 40 of Concordia Manor and charged her with carrying a firearm openly or concealed and possession of ammunition. Mr. Derima said that while investigating a robbery that occurred in February, officers of the Criminal Investigation and Special Operations Bureaus conducted a search warrant at a residence in Concordia Manor. During the search, officers discovered a loaded firearm. Simmonds admitted ownership of the firearm and indicated that she did not have a license to possess a firearm. She was placed under arrest as a result. Unable to make bail of $50,000, Simmonds was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending her advisement hearing.
