Man Accused of Assaulting Wife He Said Married Him for American Documents Now Facing Rape Charges

ST. THOMAS — A man previously accused of battering his wife has now been charged with several sexual offenses.  The latest charges against Shamall Fleming include first-degree unlawful sexual contact, first-degree assault and battery, using a dangerous weapon during a violent crime and first-degree aggravated rape. The latter offense carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.  Last Monday, Fleming appeared for a virtual hearing after he was charged with multiple crimes including second-degree assault. In that instance, he was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with a provision that he be released on the posting of 10 percent. Court documents show that Fleming’s bail of $500 was posted on Monday, January 10th. According to the probable cause fact sheet, police made contact with Fleming’s wife on Tuesday January 11 in reference to a sexual assault which she said happened on the night of January 6.
