VIPD Confirms 83-Year-Old Pedestrian Died After Collision on Queen Mary Highway

ST. CROIX — An 83-year-old man has died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle on Queen Mary Highway near the Target Service Station on Tuesday evening, November 12 at 6:04 p.m. The VIPD initially reported the incident on Thursday but has now confirmed that the victim died as a result of the accident. Earlier, the department stated it would await an autopsy to determine the extent of the injuries and the official cause of death. The pedestrian, identified as Alexander Springer, was reportedly crossing the roadway when he was hit by an eastbound silver Toyota Yaris. According to initial investigations, Springer appeared to have stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicle. He sustained severe injuries to his head and neck and was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries. Emergency personnel promptly informed his next of kin, who positively identified Springer.
