ST. CROIX — An 18-year-old male has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident that occurred in the Peters Rest area in March, leaving six individuals injured, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to the VIPD, the incident occurred near Tipsy Iguana's old location in the early hours of March 4, 2023, at approximately 3:01 a.m. Reports of shots fired reached the 911 Emergency Call Center, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.

Upon their arrival at the scene, responding officers discovered six victims of the shooting, who were subsequently transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center for treatment.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau were deployed to the scene and initiated an in-depth investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that a dispute among several males escalated, resulting in the discharge of firearms.

During the course of the investigation, one of the men involved was identified as Devonte George. Consequently, a case was filed against George with the Superior Court, leading to an arrest warrant being issued on June 29, 2023.

The court set George's bail at $75,000.00. On July 4 at approximately 3:00 p.m., he voluntarily turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station.

George was informed of his rights and arrested without incident. The charges against him include first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, carrying of firearm openly or concealed, aiming, and discharging a firearm.

Being unable to post bail, George was booked and subsequently transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility. He is scheduled for an Advice of Rights Hearing at the Superior Court on July 5, 2023.
