ST. CROIX — Two male individuals were in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon following a shootout that occurred in Peter's Rest in a parking lot near several bar and nightclub establishments located across from the Falcon Gas Station, the V.I. Police Department told the Consortium. The incident left six people nursing wounds.
According to Glen Dratte, the police department's director of communications, at about 3:21 a.m. Saturday, the 911 Emergency Call Center received several notifications of shots fired. Soon after, the Juan F. Luis Hospital notified 911 that four gunshot victims were brought to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The V.I.P.D.'s ShotSpotter system, which detects the location of gunfire, recorded 40 shots, Mr. Dratte said.
In total, six people were injured during the shooting, among them four males and two females. The V.I.P.D. said two of the injured males had undergone surgery and were listed as being in critical condition. The other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the police department said.
According to law enforcement personnel with knowledge of the matter, the shooting was triggered by an argument over a woman who was being looked at by a man.
