The V.I. Dept. of Human Services announced the closure of its Head Start Program to students across the territory on Monday, a decision made in the wake of inclement weather that continues to affect the territory. The closure also gives DHS staff an opportunity to complete assessments and prepare for the resumption of classes on Tuesday, September 20.
Additionally, the Richmond Senior Center on St. Croix, the Strive Senior Center on St. Thomas, and the Adrian Senior Center on St. John will remain closed due to inclement weather, the department said.
D.H.S.'s Senior Citizens Affairs staff will be conducting wellness checks throughout the day while the Meals on Wheels program delivers abbreviated meal runs to critical clients, according to the release.
The closures announced by Human Services come on the heels of an announcement by the V.I. Dept. of Education (via the government's Joint Information Center), making known that public schools, including the virtual academy, will be closed Monday due to inclement weather.
