The V.I. Dept. of Tourism celebrated the beginning of its multi-year partnership with the New York Jets in grand style. The partnership was officially launched with a Caribbean Carnival-themed tailgate party during the Monday Night Football game on September 11.
D.O.T. Commissioner Joseph Boschulte said, "As the official Caribbean destination partner of the New York Jets, we wanted to introduce this partnership in a unique and festive manner. What better way to do it than by hosting a Carnival-themed event that showcases the vibrant culture of the U.S. Virgin Islands to some of the most passionate fans in the country!"
The tailgate party was held at the Jets Tailgate Zone and featured an elaborate activation buildout that represented the three main islands of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Members of the tourism team, cultural dancers, and Moko Jumbies mingled with fans, handing out special game-day swag. Adding to the festivities, the Virgin Islands Dream Team, a D.J. duo, entertained the crowd for hours with a mix of soca, calypso, and reggae music.
The Jets Tailgate Zone also served as the backdrop for the live taping of Jets Pregame Central, which was presented by the U.S. Virgin Islands. The show featured Jets Team Reporter Eric Allen and Jets legends Anthony Becht and Quincy Enunwa. They were joined on stage by special guests including Hip-Hop Legend Method Man and former Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde.
"We are extremely pleased with how the partnership between the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Jets unfolded during our home opener," commented Jeff Fernandez, vice president of Business Development and Ventures for the New York Jets. "The Carnival experience we were able to create at MetLife Stadium and the Jets Tailgate Zone truly enhanced the overall game-day experience. We are excited about future collaborations this season."
Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. also participated in the event, meeting fans at the Tailgate Zone and joining Mr. Boschulte for the honorary coin toss.
Fans can look forward to another themed tailgate event on October 1, complete with giveaways and more fan engagement activities.
