The VI Track & Field Federation announced Sunday that St. Croix native Nia Jack won the 100-meter (m) dash at the UCF Knights Invite over the weekend with a personal best time of 11.51 seconds. Jack, formerly of St. Croix Educational High School and St. Croix Track Club competes for the Alabama State University while working on her master’s degree. Jack is vying for a spot on the Virgin Islands 2021 Olympic team to Tokyo. She is now less than four-tenths of a second away from the 100m qualifying standard of 11.15 seconds, according to VITFF.
On the Junior local level, athletes were happy to have the opportunity to compete once again at the St. Croix Educational Complex Track & Field facility, VITFF said. The events this weekend were the Shot Put, Discus Throw, 800 meter run, and the 200 meter dash.
The multiple event winners in the 200m and the 800m were Michelle Smith of St. Croix Track Club in the girls Under 17 division, Jeniqua Weeks of St. Croix Track Club in the girls under 13 division, Michael Dizon-Buman of Jolly Rogers Track Club in the boys under 20 division and Kaeden Gleason of Jolly Rogers Track Club in the Boys under 15 division.
Akyra Joseph of St. Croix Track Club won the girls under 15 200m and Shot Put; Ariana Edgar of St. Croix Track Club won the Shot Put and the Discus Throw female under 20; and Jordan Vaughn of St. Croix Track Club competed in the male under 20 division where he also won the Shot Put and Discus Throw.
Local Track & Field Meets Continue
The VI Track & Field Federation thanked all the volunteers who work to make these Track & Field meets possible and encourages all their athletes, volunteers, and coaches to make sure to register in order to attend the upcoming meet events, according to the release.
