The first-ever Virgin Islands Little League 9-12 Territorial softball inter-island play was held last weekend, featuring two teams from St. Croix and two from St. Thomas. The event took place on St. Thomas and St. John, with the final games being held at the National Park Field on St. John.
In the first game, the Diamond Dolls from St. Croix were defeated by St. Thomas' Sistahood with a score of 13-7. The second game saw the Lady Lions from St. Croix defeating St. Thomas' Venom with a score of 32-8.
On the second day of action, Sistahood won a closely contested game against Diamond Dolls with a score of 14-12. The second game was also a close matchup, with Sistahood beating Lady Lions 11-7.
On the final day, there were four games on the card, with Diamond Dolls defeating Venom 15-14. Sistahood won another tight game against Diamond Dolls with a score of 14-13. In game three, Sistahood outlasted Lady Lions with a final score of 14-6. The final game of the inter-island Little League softball weekend saw Diamond Dolls defeating Sistahood with a score of 14-11.
Richard Clendenin, the organizer, said that this was the first year of Little League Territorial softball in the Virgin Islands, and that the inter-island play was beneficial for the young athletes to experience things outside their island. Clendenin added that these young ladies are the future of fast pitch Softball in the Virgin Islands.
The young softball players will continue to compete on all three islands, with the next games set to take place next weekend.
