USVI native and WNBA star Aliyah Boston.
Former South Carolina basketball star turned WNBA professional Aliyah Boston has not stopped racking up awards, achievements, and recognition in her sport as she continues her rookie year with the Indiana Fever.
On Sunday, Boston, along with fellow Gamecocks alumna A’ja Wilson, joined WNBA powerhouse Brittney Griner and seven other leading players in being named 2023 WNBA All-Star starters.
Boston, who joined the league as the #1 draft pick, is the first WNBA rookie to be named to the All-Star team as a starter since 2014, and only the eighth such rookie selected in franchise history.
Boston, the only first-time All-Star among the chosen starters, has been leading the league in terms of field goal success, with a rate of 64.3%. Among her rookie class, she dominates, leading in points, rebounds, blocks, and minutes played per game.
Now that the 10 starters have been voted on by current players, press and fans, the 12 reserve players will be selected by the league’s head coaches and announced on Saturday. Then, on July 8, the two captains for the All-Star game (Wilson and Breanna Stewart) will each draft their rosters ahead of the July 15 match-up.
Before her All-Star starting appearance, Boston will play seven league games, including against the Las Vegas Aces tonight at 10:00 p.m.
