Caribbean Cinemas in Market Square East, St. Thomas and Sunny Isle, St. Croix are re-opening on Thursday following the guidelines and recommendations presented by the government of the USVI, said the company in a release issued Tuesday. The theater chain resumed operations in June after being closed since March and decided to close a month later due to the lack of film releases from Hollywood.
As part of the opening schedule, Caribbean Cinemas confirms the release of the much-anticipated spy action espionage thriller “Tenet”. The film has grossed over $207 million in theaters worldwide through September 13 and was directed by Christopher Nolan, director of films such as “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Trilogy".
“Unhinged”, starring Russell Crowe, centered around a terrifying cat-and-mouse chase between Crowe’s character, an unnamed stranger, and a woman named Rachel who provokes the stranger’s ire when trying to get around him in a traffic jam will also open on Thursday. “The Outpost”, “Birds of Prey”, “Abominable”, “Kung Fu Panda” and “Minions” will be re-released and offered at a discounted price, as well as all movies on Thursdays, as part of “Customer Appreciation Day", said Caribbean Cinemas.
The theaters will remain closed from Monday to Wednesday until further notice and their new operational hours will be two shows Thursdays and Fridays from 6:00pm and Saturdays and Sundays three shows daily from 2:30 p.m., according to the release.
Caribbean Cinemas also confirmed the following films for the upcoming on Oct. 8, weeks: "The New Mutants", which is based on the Marvel Comics team, and “The War With Grandpa”, a family comedy starring Robert DeNiro.
Caribbean Cinemas stated that its employees are pleased to be back and looking forward to welcoming loyal patrons. Health and safety protocols will continue to be observed, the theater chain said, including social distancing rules, mandatory wearing of face masks, and temperature checks.
Auditorium capacity has been reduced to create social distancing by leaving seats and empty rows between parties. Additional cleaning time between shows and in the concession area it will be compulsory for employees to use gloves, and protective gear, said Caribbean Cinemas.
For a limited time, private screenings packages including movie, popcorn and soda will be available for friends or family groups of 20 guests or more.
