ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department's Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Saturday morning in the Strawberry area of St. Croix. A woman's vehicle was damaged by gunfire as she stopped to offer a ride to a friend near the Strawberry Shanty.

Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 5:30 a.m. through a 911 call reporting gunfire and a vehicle with bullet holes. Units from the Ancilmo Marshall Command were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The woman had been returning home from the laundry and stopped by the Strawberry Shanty to offer a ride to a friend. As she waited, another vehicle approached from behind and honked its horn, causing her to turn into the Strawberry entrance. It was at this moment that she heard what she described as a sound resembling a firecracker and felt heat and fragments around her body. She only discovered bullet holes in the rear of her vehicle upon arriving home, leading her husband to place the emergency call to 911.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau has taken the lead on this case. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward as soon as possible. The public is advised to make reports through the 911 Emergency Call Center, the CIB Tipline at (340) 778-4850, or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1(800) 222-TIPS.
