ST. CROIX — United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced Thursday that Cleon Otto, a 35-year-old former employee of the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) and member of the Virgin Islands National Guard, was sentenced to 12 months of probation for creating a false authentication document.
Chief District Court Judge Robert A. Molloy also ordered Otto to pay a $1,000 fine, a $25 special assessment, and restitution in the amount of $1,162.20.
According to court documents, on July 9, 2021, Otto used the electronically generated signature of another employee to fraudulently authorize his paid military leave request. After submitting the falsified document, Otto received compensation in the amount of $1,162.20.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Everard E. Potter.
