The National Weather Service in Puerto Rico announced Tuesday that interaction between an upper-level trough and a tropical wave could lead to excessive heavy rainfall. For this reason, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands from this afternoon through Thursday evening.

NWS said maximum rainfall accumulation may range between 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 10 inches.

The weather service said excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood prone locations.

Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Extensive street flooding of creeks and rivers are also possible, NWS said. With more heavy rain, area creeks and streams may run high and could flood more, leading to possible mudslides.
