ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Department is investigating a homicide following the discovery of a man’s body early Friday morning in the Kronprindsens Gade area of St. Thomas.
According to the VIPD, at approximately 2:32 a.m. on July 11, the department's ShotSpotter gunshot detection system alerted 911 dispatchers to multiple rounds fired near lower Kronprindsens Gade. Officers responded promptly to the scene and located an unresponsive Black male inside an abandoned wooden structure.
The victim appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Emergency Medical Technicians were also dispatched and assessed the individual for vital signs, but by 2:53 a.m., EMTs confirmed that the man showed no signs of life.
The man’s identity remains unknown pending official notification of next of kin.
The case is now in the hands of VIPD’s Major Crimes Unit, which has launched a full investigation.
