ST. THOMAS — A man appeared before a judge in the V.I. Superior Court Friday to face multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a security guard for booting his vehicle.

Levi Registe was arrested and charged on Wednesday with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and disturbance of the peace by fighting following the report of a stabbing incident.

According to the probable cause fact sheet, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from the Schneider Regional Medical Center Emergency Room regarding a stabbing victim who was present for medical treatment. Investigations revealed that there was a disturbance around Bernie’s Bar & Grill at the American Yacht Harbor. The bartender had made a complaint that a man, later identified as Levi Registe, was screaming and running through the bar, making threats at him.

Further investigations revealed that the victim, a security guard who was on duty at the time, confronted Registe on the American Yacht Harbor staircase leading down to the parking garage, because Registe was causing a disturbance. The victim told Registe to leave the area, but Registe — armed with a knife — attacked the security guard causing three lacerations, which needed 10-14 sutures to close. The victim’s shoulder was also dislocated during the attack, according to the probable cause fact sheet.

After assaulting the victim, Registe left the area.

Later that day, a call was placed with 911 reporting that Registe was at the ER complaining of pain from a broken arm. When patrol officers contacted Registe, he admitted to being the man who stabbed the victim earlier in the day at Bernie's Bar & Grill.

Investigations revealed that the victim had no knowledge of how Registe’s hand was broken despite striking him with the 2x4 in self defense. It was also revealed that Registe had parked an unregistered Sukuki Grand Vitara in the American Yacht Habor garage but the vehicle was booted by security personnel. Registe got upset and confronted the security guard for booting his vehicle, making threats that the security guard was "going to get it."

In court on Friday, a judge ruled that Registe would need to post 20 percent of his $75,000 bail amount to secure his release. If released, he will be barred from leaving the St. Thomas-St. John district without the court’s written permission. Registe must report to the Office of Probation twice a week and provide proof of employment. A daily curfew has been set from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m, and Registe is barred from having direct or indirect contact with the victim or any witnesses.

His arraignment is set for November 18, 2022.
