ST. THOMAS —The V.I. Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Estate Tutu after a man was found unresponsive early Saturday morning along Yellow Cedar Avenue with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte confirmed to the Consortium that the ShotSpotter Detection system registered multiple gunshots in the Estate Tutu area at approximately 11:32 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Several hours later, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at approximately 5:52 a.m., a concerned citizen called 911 to report a male lying along the side of Yellow Cedar Avenue in Estate Tutu.
Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered an unresponsive male who had sustained what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded and concluded that the male had no vital signs.
The victim was identified by next of kin as 54-year-old Luciano A. Warrell Jr.
