ST. CROIX — The V.I. Police Department has identified the deceased victim of a shooting Sunday morning outside the Climax Sportsbar and Nightclub in Peter's Rest where six people were shot. The department also provided information on the other victims wounded during the barrage of gunfire, with the V.I.P.D.'s ShotSpotter technology recording 77 gunshots.
The deceased victim has been identified by next of kin as 19-year-old Jahmari Joshawn Santiago, according to the police department. Another victim is on life-support, while the four others were either recovering or discharged.
"Investigation disclosed that the club was closing and the patron was exiting when gunshot rang out. At this time we do not know the reason for the discharging of shots at this time," the V.I.P.D. said in a statement.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received the first report of the shooting at 4:49 a.m. Sunday, the department said.
There were no suspects in custody at time of publication. The V.I.P.D. says it is investigating the matter and is urging anyone with information to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here, or the CIB Tipline at 340-778-4950 or 340 712 6092.
