The University of the Virgin Islands School of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service (CES) is inviting interested persons to a free fruit tree grafting workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.
This workshop is the first in a series of Plant Propagation Workshops that will be offered during the next few months, UVI said.
“We are pleased to present this workshop where interested persons will learn fruit tree grafting techniques,” said CES Associate Director Stafford Crossman. “Tropical fruit trees are very common in yards and around homes in the Virgin Islands, and many residents want to have trees that produce fruits identical to the ones they enjoy eating. This method of plant propagation is one of the ways to get plants that bear the same type of fruits as the parent plant, and to get early fruit production.”
According to UVI, the workshop will teach the theory and benefits of grafting along with grafting demonstrations. Attendees will have the opportunity to try hands-on grafting for themselves and have a grafted plant to take home.
