The V.I. Dept. of Education has released the orientation schedule for the St. Thomas-St. John District 2023-2024 School Year. The orientations are designed to help students familiarize themselves with their school environments, meet their teachers, and gain essential information for the upcoming academic year.
Charlotte Amalie High School will begin its orientations on Wednesday, August 2nd. Ninth graders are to attend at 8:30 a.m., while the 10th grade session starts at 1:00 p.m. The following day, Thursday, August 3rd, will see 11th graders starting at 8:30 a.m., and 12th graders at 1:00 p.m. Students are required to attend in full school uniform, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Attendees should bring copies of their child's immunization and insurance cards, and be prepared to pay school fees, including $10 for a school ID, $18 for insurance, $15 for student fee, and $10 for PTSA fee.
On the same day, Ivanna Eudora Kean High School will hold their 12th-grade orientation at 10:00 a.m. in Café Kean, while the 9th-grade session will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Digna Marie Wheatley Gymnasium. The 10th and 11th-grade students will have their orientation at 3:00 p.m., also in the gymnasium. Again, students should come in full uniform with a parent or guardian and present an up-to-date immunization card.
Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School's orientation for 6th graders and new students will commence at 9:00 a.m., while the session for 7th and 8th graders will start at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3rd. Orientation for Lockhart K-8 School will begin on Wednesday, August 2nd, with various grades scheduled over two days.
Joseph Gomez Elementary School's orientation will commence on Tuesday, August 1st, for PreK & Kindergarten at 8:30 a.m., and 1st & 2nd Grade at 1:00 p.m., and continue on Wednesday, August 2nd for other grades. Joseph Sibilly Elementary School has scheduled its orientation on Wednesday, August 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Yvonne Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School's orientation will begin on Monday, August 7th, with all new students gathering at 8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. Ulla F. Muller Elementary School's orientation for PreK to 5th grade will be at 8:00 a.m. on the same day.
The Julius E. Sprauve School in St. John will hold its orientation on Monday, August 7th, starting with PreK to 4th grade at 8:00 a.m., and 5th to 8th grade at 10:00 a.m. Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School's orientation will start on Wednesday, August 2nd, with 1st to 4th grade at 8:30 a.m., and Kindergarten on Thursday, August 3rd, at 8:00 a.m. A makeup orientation will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, at 9:00 a.m.
In all cases, students must attend in their full school uniform with a parent or guardian, and provide a copy of their up-to-date immunization card. If school insurance is not being purchased, a copy of private insurance must be presented. Further, all schools will be collecting relevant school fees during these sessions.
The St. Thomas District Education Department encouraged parents and students to mark these important dates on their calendars to ensure a smooth transition into the new academic year.
