The Office of Veterans Affairs has organized motorcade events in St. Thomas and St. Croix to celebrate National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the territory. March 29 has been designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
“With the Virgin Islands having many Vietnam War Veterans, we welcome yet another opportunity to honor them,” said Office of Veterans Affairs Director Patrick Farrell.
The local VA extended an invitation to all veterans for the motorcade in their respective districts. "In an effort to discourage and prevent mass gatherings, per Governor Bryan’s mandates, Veterans will be asked to participate using their own vehicle," said the local V.A. "Both motorcades will begin at noon."
Staging information for each district is as follows:
St. Thomas Date:
Saturday, March 27th, 2021
Staging Time and Location: 11 a.m. at the northern end of the Four Winds Shopping Center parking lot.
St. Croix Date:
Sunday March 28th, 2021
Staging Time and Location: 11 a.m. at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark
According to the release, the eldest veterans on St. Thomas and St. Croix were not able to be presented with their plaques for Veterans Day 2020. "We will use this opportunity to present Romeo A. Malone of St. Thomas and Abraham Hewitt of St. Croix with their plaques at their respective motorcade end point," the VA said.
