Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport By. STEVE FRIEDMAN

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS — BVI Premier Andrew Fahie has made known that Beef Island, which hosts the territory's main airport — the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport — will soon see the commencement of development on more than 600 acres of land. The premier revealed the information Saturday during the annual First District Report, which details the government's performance during the past year, along with planned initiatives.

The land, which Mr. Fahie said will be transferred to the government from the BVI Airports Authority, will be used for a variety of developments that the premier says will boost the BVI economy while providing opportunity for BVI residents.

“We have to unleash the potential of the BVI. We have to wake up the sleeping giant," Mr. Fahie said without providing much details about what, exactly, would be done with the property.

The premier said his government was "rich with ideas," and that the BVI economy was "performing above expectations."

“We must diversify so we must cast a wider net,” he said.
