KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The body of an eight-year-old student from the Epsom Primary School in St. Mary, north east of Jamaica, was found Tuesday, several hours after she had been washed away while attempting to cross a river during heavy rains on Monday.

The Coast Guard found the body of Kimora Whyte’s body in Annotto Bay, located in the small community of Iter Boreale in the parish of St. Mary.

Rescue teams including members of the community, had been searching for Whyte since she disappeared while attempting to cross a shallow area of the river in her community while on her way home from school.

Divers and rescuer workers including members of the fire department unsuccessfully searched for the child into late Monday evening.
