ST. THOMAS — A 32-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon following a shooting in the Altona area, according to the V.I. Police Department (VIPD).
Authorities reported that at approximately 3:53 p.m. on August 15, a citizen called 911 to report multiple shots fired and that a male victim had been struck.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was already being transported in a private vehicle to Schneider Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff, the man succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 4:11 p.m.
The victim was later identified by next of kin as Mario Lugo Florentino, 32.
The VIPD’s Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. As of press time, police had not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made.
