ST. THOMAS — A routine intelligence operation by the V.I. Police Department's Intel Unit led to the arrest of 35-year-old Kareem Harrigan on drug-related charges and child endangerment.

According to the VIPD, the arrest occurred on Friday, February 28 at approximately 6:20 p.m. following an inspection by officers from the Special Operations Bureau (SOB).

The officers were acting on intelligence regarding illegal drug sales taking place at the intersection of Smith Bay Road and Coki Point Road, the VIPD said. Upon arrival at the location, officers observed Harrigan sitting in the driver’s seat of a red Toyota with the driver’s door open, smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette.

Further investigation led to the discovery of an orange bucket on the floorboard of the driver’s seat containing multiple clear plastic containers of marijuana, visibly packaged for distribution. Additionally, Harrigan’s minor son was in the front passenger seat at the time of the incident.

Harrigan was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His bail was set at $13,000, and after being unable to post bond, he was booked, processed, and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.

Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that Harrigan’s minor son was placed under the custody of his grandmother following the arrest.
