ST. CROIX — A former employee of The Home Depot, identified as 48-year-old Sheba Young, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including grand larceny, embezzlement by an employee, and conspiracy.

According to a VIPD report, the arrest follows an investigation into an incident involving the theft of a Whirlpool refrigerator valued at $1,288.

The VIPD's Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation on December 16, 2024, after The Home Depot filed a complaint. Surveillance footage from the store revealed that Young allegedly exited the premises with the refrigerator without paying for it. The footage also reportedly shows Young persuading a co-worker to assist in loading the refrigerator into an accomplice's truck.

Authorities allege that Young fraudulently appropriated the refrigerator for her personal use or that of another, exploiting her position as an employee of the store to commit the theft.

On January 10, 2025, detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit executed an arrest warrant at Young’s residence at 388 Castle Burke. She was advised of her rights and taken into custody without incident. Young was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where she was booked and charged with grand larceny, embezzlement by an employee, and conspiracy.

Young’s bail was set at $35,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility, where she awaits her Advice of Rights Hearing scheduled for Monday, January 13, at the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

The VIPD's Economic Crimes Unit has emphasized its commitment to addressing crimes of this nature and ensuring accountability for those who exploit their positions for personal gain.
