Police on St. Croix say they are nearing an arrest in the string of hit-and-run incidents linked to a white Mercedes-Benz sedan, a case that has drawn growing public concern as multiple individuals have reported being struck or nearly hit in recent weeks. The update came during Monday’s Government House press briefing, where officials detailed the final steps needed before taking the suspect into custody.

The V.I. Police Department has identified Cleo Taylor as a person of interest in the investigation. Over the weekend, Consortium journalists reported that several people had come forward claiming that a white Mercedes had collided with pedestrians or narrowly missed hitting them. By last Friday, officers had located the vehicle parked outside Taylor’s residence and impounded it, though she remained at large.

Uston Cornelius, Chief of Police for the St. Croix district, told the public that police are in the final stages of securing the necessary documents to proceed. “We're waiting for the final paperwork as it relates to getting the female that's involved,” he said. “Once that is completed, we will then make contact with the community and everyone that had an incident relating to this white vehicle.”

Cornelius emphasized that investigators intend to handle each report carefully. “One by one, we'll be calling you so that we could get your side and make sure that everything matches up, and then everything will be linked to the case,” he said.
