Man Fatally Shot by Police During Domestic Dispute Call in LBJ Gardens, VIPD Confirms

ST. CROIX — A domestic dispute call at LBJ Gardens on Thursday ended in tragedy when a 48-year-old man was fatally shot by police during a struggle with officers, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The incident occurred on July 17 at approximately 4:42 p.m., when officers responded to a 911 Emergency Call Center report regarding a disturbance between a mother and her adult son. The mother had requested police assistance due to concerns about her son’s behavior at the residence, the VIPD said.

Upon arrival at the scene, VIPD officers made contact with both individuals. According to the department, a physical altercation soon broke out between the son and the two responding officers. During the struggle, one of the officers discharged their firearm, striking the man once. The man, later identified as Alejandro Torres III, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The VIPD has confirmed that both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Authorities emphasized that the incident remains under active investigation and provided no further comment on the specific nature of the struggle or what led to the use of deadly force.
