ST. THOMAS — Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the V.I. Police Department have arrested 34-year-old Jeffrey Carty Jr. in connection with a brutal assault that left one man injured.

Carty was taken into custody on Thursday, March 3 at approximately 5:58 p.m. and transported to the Alexander Callwood Command’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. He faces multiple charges, including third-degree assault, mayhem, disturbance of the peace, and simple assault.
According to the police report, the incident took place on Friday, February 28 at approximately 5:00 a.m. The male victim stated that he had just exited his residence and was walking toward the street where his vehicle was parked when he was confronted by Jeffrey Carty Jr.
The victim told police that Carty approached him while brandishing a dark-colored firearm. Without warning, Carty allegedly struck the victim in the face multiple times with the weapon, leaving him with a deep laceration that required sutures. The attack escalated further when Carty reportedly forced the gun into the victim’s mouth before fleeing the scene.
Following an investigation by CIB detectives, Carty was identified as the suspect in the assault and subsequently arrested. Authorities are continuing their inquiries into the case.
