ST. CROIX — A 43-year-old man has been remanded to custody following his arrest in connection with a shooting that left a woman critically injured late Saturday night on East Street in Frederiksted, according V.I. Police Department Director of Communications Glen Dratte.
The VIPD's Criminal Investigation Bureau reported that the incident occurred at approximately 11:27 p.m. on August 16, when the ShotSpotter System detected several gunshots in the area. Responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered an adult female lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to her back. The victim was transported by ambulance to Juan F. Luis Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for injuries that damaged several major organs. She remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Detectives investigating the case identified Montserrat-born Kenny Rogers, as the suspect. According to the police, the victim and other witnesses present at the scene named Rogers as the individual who fired the shots during a domestic dispute.
Rogers surrendered himself to police at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, Mr. Dratte made known. He was arrested and booked. Unable to post the $100,000 bail, he was transported to the John Bell Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending his advice of rights hearing scheduled today in Superior Court.
Rogers faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault under domestic violence, discharging or aiming a firearm, and carrying a firearm openly or concealed. The investigation remains ongoing.
