Off-Duty Police Officer Shot Near Concordia Manor, St. Croix; VIPD Launches Investigation

ST. CROIX — An off-duty law enforcement officer was injured early Sunday morning after being struck by gunfire while leaving Concordia Manor in St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department announced Sunday. The incident occurred around 2:02 a.m. According to the VIPD, the 911 Emergency Call Center was alerted by medical staff at the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital when the officer, who had been shot in the upper body, walked into the Emergency Room seeking assistance. Upon arrival at the hospital, detectives learned that the officer was driving away from Concordia Manor when an unknown individual opened fire on his vehicle. According to the officer's account, he initially heard a gunshot, noticed a hole in his windshield, and then felt pain in his left shoulder, realizing he had been shot. Despite his injury, he managed to drive himself to the hospital for treatment. Medical staff treated the officer for a single gunshot wound to his left shoulder, and he is expected to be discharged soon....
