Woman Arrested After Police, Feds Find Cocaine And Marijuana In Her Vehicle

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / August 12, 2019

ST. THOMAS — A traffic checkpoint initiative conducted by police officers and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on Thursday, led to the arrest of a 26-year-old woman after the authorities discovered marijuana and cocaine in her vehicle, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Karl Caesar has announced.

The 26-year-old woman, identified as Kelsii Edwards, made an illegal lane change to avoid the checkpoint, which was at Veteran’s Drive. Officers pursued the vehicle and was able to get it to stop.

The officers approached Ms. Edwards and saw small plastic bags of what appeared to be marijuana, in the vehicle. When questioned by officers, Ms. Edwards said she was smoking marijuana.

A search was conducted of the vehicle and officers found small plastic bags containing a white powdery substance. A field test of the substance was conducted and resulted in a positive match for cocaine, according to Mr. Caesar.

Ms. Edwards was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The traffic initiative also yielded the arrest of 23-year-old Donte Camile Joseph, after officers found marijuana in his vehicle. According to Mr. Caesar, the young man was acting belligerent and spat at police. He was also charged with throwing bodily fluid or waste at a person, and interfering with an officer discharging duties.

Mr. Joseph was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
