Early Voting Bill Signed By Governor deJongh

News / Politics / Virgin Islands / August 14, 2014

A bill allowing early voting in the Virgin Islands has been signed into law by Governor deJongh, a win for residents who, for whatever reason, will choose to cast their ballots before election day.

Bill No. 30-0370, under Section 6 and 7, amends Title 18 of the VI Code, and institutes early voting for the upcoming general election, Governor deJongh said.

Bill No. 30-0370 included other measures such as transferring the Casino Control Revolving Fund to the VI Department of Finance and re-establishes it as a special checking account under Section 3. The bill would also allow the Division of Personnel to make direct payments of health insurance premiums to the VI government’s health insurance provider.

Under Section 10, Act No. 7574 was amended to reflect the correct parcel number for rezoning requests as recommended by the VI Department  of Planning and Natural Resources; Section 12 would appropriate funds to the VI Bureau of Motor Vehicles to complete the implementation of the Federal REAL ID Act of 2005; Section 15 would appropriate $217,500 from the Tourism Advertising Revolving Fund to the USVI Little League; and Section 16 would rename a St. Thomas road the Edward Wilmot Blyden Road.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
