Man Shot Multiple Times On ‘Turf’ In Campo Rico, Police Say

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / April 12, 2019

ST. CROIX — A man was shot multiple times in Campo Rico on Thursday in an area known as “The Turf”, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.

Mr. Dratte said the 911 emergency call center was notified of the incident at about 3:15 p.m. and immediately dispatched officers to the scene. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered that the victim, a Black male individual, was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital with gunshot wounds.

The officers — members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau — then traveled to the hospital, where they met with the victim, who told police that while he was in the area known as The Turf, a masked man came up to him and starting discharging gunshots, striking him in the upper body. The victim said he did not know who the masked man was, or why anyone would want to hurt him.

The victim was in stable condition as of Thursday, Mr. Dratte said.

The incident remains under active investigation, according to police. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of the masked man, to call 340-778-2211, or send a tip to Crime Stoppers USVI. The tips are anonymous and information leading to the arrest of perpetrators may result in a cash reward.
