ST. THOMAS — Attendees of the 2nd Annual Sounds of the Virgin Isles were treated to a spectacular performance on Saturday night, as students, teachers and guest performers came together with performances that echoed the culture and history of the Virgin Islands, a release the office of Senator Janelle Sarauw issued Tuesday has made known.
The night kicked off with a live auction and cocktail hour before the blowing of the conch shell, which signified the starting of the concert. According to the release, each year Sounds of the Virgin Isles selects and recognizes a musical ambassador honoree based on their contribution to the music and performing arts in the territory. This year, Monet I. Davis was honored.
The audience got to see performances from the participating schools of Lockhart Elementary School, Yvonne E. Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Charlotte Amalie High School, and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, with guest performers Lorna L. Freeman-Woodley, Terrence Corbett and Sherwin Williams, according to the release.
“I would like to thank the Department of Education, our students, instructors, and especially Mr. Luben L. Daniel, Mr. Anthony Nibbs and Ms. Dionne Donadelle for all their hard work and for putting on a mesmerizing performance. I would also like to thank the community for coming out and supporting our youth and educators,” said Senator Sarauw. “Thank you to everyone that made this event a success.”
