ST. THOMAS — Talia Feshbach, a senior at Virgin Islands Montessori School & Peter Gruber International Academy (VIMSA), has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, a release the school issued today has made known. Last fall, Talia’s PSAT score qualified her as a semi-finalist out of 1,600,000 test takers. She was recently named as one of 15,000 finalists and hopes to be one of 7,500 students nationwide to receive a scholarship. Finalists will be notified in March if they are scholarship winners.
“With young people like this at the helm, we will be in good hands for the next generation” commented Peter Gruber International Academy Director, Gloria Arpasi. Talia is an active member of a small senior class that is participating in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. This program strives to create dynamic, global thinkers who will become responsible, caring citizens.
“Talia is well on her way to achieving these attributes in a stellar way,” commented Ms. Arpasi. “She is fiercely intelligent and reflective, while also being a kind and calm young woman. I am not the least bit surprised that she has become a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship.”
In the release, VIMSIA said it strives to develop students that are: inquisitive, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. Feshbach is achieving all these traits and additionally she has earned a National Merit Scholarship finalist award. “We are truly honored with her recognition and envision Talia achieving even more greatness in her life,” noted Michael Bornn, head of school.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs.
