Early Voting Tops 9,000 In USVI; Voters In St. Croix And St. Thomas Have Until Monday To Cast Ballots Early

The latest numbers are in, and approximately 9,123 Virgin Islanders as of Friday had voted early, according to the Election System of the Virgin Islands.

If early voting tops the 10,000 mark, it would mean more than 20 percent of all registered voters in the territory would have cast ballots early. There are 51,112 registered voters in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to the Election System.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas continues to lead St. Croix in turnout. So far, 4,860 individuals have voted early in St. Thomas, followed by 3,914 on St. Croix, and 349 on St. John. (Early voting on St. John ends on Saturday, while the process ends on Monday in St. Croix and St. Thomas. On Saturday, early voting on St. Croix will start at 12 noon and end at 7:00 p.m.)

In closing remarks, Supervisor of Elections Caroline Fawkes urged young people to come out and vote. “Young people need to vote. They need to get out there. Every vote counts. Educate yourself too. Don’t just vote. Know what you’re voting for, and stand by that,” she said in a release issued late Saturday, quoting Nikki Reed.

To vote early on St. Croix, head to the Election System office in the Sunny Isle Annex across from the WAPA building. On St. Thomas, early voting takes place at the Election System office in Lockhart Gardens upstairs Banco Popular. On St. John, early voting takes place at the Election System Offices located at the Market Place Suite II.
