U.S.V.I. Golf Federation Team Set To Compete In The 2018 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship

News / Sports / Virgin Islands / July 30, 2018

Despite the setbacks of last year’s Hurricanes Irma and Maria, competitive golf remains strong as seven of the territory’s top amateur golfers are set to compete among the best players in the Caribbean in the 62nd Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship, being held July 31st to August 3rd, in the Cayman Islands, according to a release issued Sunday.

This year’s U.S.V.I. Golf Federation’s competing team players include: Kevin Ferris, Dante Davis, Johanan Edmeade, Michael Ross, Alexandra Swayne, Joe Sibilly Jr., and Team Captain Allison Bourne-Vanneck. The team also includes Team Manager Art Egger and U.S.V.I Golf Federation President Nevin Phillips. Golfers tee off Tuesday July 31st for the first round of the tournament.

According to the release, the U.S. Virgin Islands will compete with eight other Caribbean countries, including Bahamas, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands. Golfers will tee off at the North Sound Golf Club in Grand Cayman. The 4-day tournament requires golfers to play four rounds of 18 holes (72 holes in total).

“There are no doubts about this team’s skillset, so placing in the top three wouldn’t be a surprise,” USVI Golf Federation Nevin Phillips said. “The only expectation I have is for every team member to be a great ambassador for the Virgin Islands,” Mr. Phillips said.
