St. Thomas Man Shot In Back, Survives Incident

ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man was shot in the back in the Hospital Ground area on Tuesday morning, V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman has announced.

According to Ms. Freeman, at approximately 11:27 a.m. Tuesday, the 911 emergency call center received notification via phone call of a shooting victim in the area of Hospital Ground. Upon arrival to the scene, contact was made with a male victim, who explained that while walking in the area, he heard shots being fired.

The victim further explained that he felt pain in his lower back, fell to the ground and was able to call 911 to report what had happened. The victim said he had no idea who was firing the shots, or who would want to do him bodily harm, according to Ms. Freeman.

The victim, who was shot once in his back, was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted for further treatment, Ms. Freeman said.

The case is under investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact C.I.B. at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 and ext. 5556. You may also contact Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
