St. Thomas Man Dies Day After Being Shot By Unknown Assailant

Crime / News / Virgin Islands / June 26, 2018

ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man who was shot after the 10:00 p.m. hour in the Hospital Ground area on Monday, and was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (S.R.M.C.), succumbed to his injuries sustained during the shooting the following morning, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Tuesday.

According to Mr. Dratte, on Monday at approximately 10:48 p.m., Central Dispatch was notified of multiple gunshots that were discharged in the Hospital Ground area. Mr. Dratte said units from the Richard N. Callwood Command, along with units from the Criminal Investigations Bureau (C.I.B.), traveled to Hospital Ground and discovered a black male on the ground in the area of “Glass Battle Alley”.

The male appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to his body, and was transported to S.R.M.C. via ambulance where he was taken into surgery. However, at approximately 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, the male victim — whose identity was withheld pending next of kin notification —  succumbed to his injuries, Mr. Dratte said.

The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact C.I.B. at 340-774-2211 ext., 5569 or 340-714-9830. You may also contact Crime Stoppers USVI here.
