ST. CROIX — Potable water customers in mid-island and west end St. Croix are now experiencing service restoration following the completion of repairs at the Concordia pump station, and as rebuilding of the storage capacity at the Kingshill storage tank is underway, WAPA said late Sunday.
Customers in higher elevations should see service restoration beginning later tonight into Monday. While there is a lot of demand on the water system presently, the Authority anticipates being able to provide water service to schools and government facilities on Monday.
The water interruption began on Thursday when two pumps at the Concordia pump station malfunctioned. Efforts focused on securing parts to bring one pump on-line and procuring a rental pump to restore full service to the pump station. On Saturday, one of the pumps encountered mechanical issues which were resolved by nightfall.
Interim Executive Director Clinton Hedrington, Jr. expressed his appreciation to the Water Distribution crews who worked tirelessly through the weekend to resolve the problems and challenges which prevented normal water service to residents from mid-island to the west end.
“Your non-stop efforts to repair the pumps, restore the station, and eventually resume the distribution of potable water to our customers from mid-island to west-end St. Croix is appreciated by me, your fellow workers and by the affected customers,” Hedrington said Sunday. He also apologized to the community for the inconvenience caused by the water service interruption.
