Police Reveal Identities Of Men Killed During Sunday Shootings On St. Croix

Breaking News / Crime / Virgin Islands / August 14, 2017

ST. CROIX — The V.I.P.D. has revealed the identities of two men shot dead on Sunday night in different locations on St. Croix.

The incidents occurred in Watergut near the shanty, and in the Mutual Homes Housing Community. The victim who succumbed to his wounds from the Watergut incident was identified by his mother as 22-year-old K’hing John. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s emergency room for care, but died moments later. The V.I.P.D. confirmed the victim of the Mutual Homes shooting as Atnelle Livingston Harris, 24. Mr. Harris, who was also identified by his mother, died on the scene.

According to V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards, the incidents occurred almost simultaneously after the 7:00 p.m. hour Sunday.

The commissioner said the 911 emergency call center received notification of multiple shots being fired in the Watergut area near the shanty, and immediately dispatched officers to the location. Upon arrival, officers met a victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body, and appeared unresponsive. He was transported to the J.F.L. emergency room by ambulance, where he later expired.

While the Watergut incident was still unfolding, police units were dispatched to the Mutual Homes Housing Community following a call to the 911 emergency center of shots being fired.

Upon officers arrival to the scene, they met a male victim, who Mr. Richards said was found lying lifeless on the ground. He had sustained a fatal shot to his “upper extremity,” according to the commissioner. The incidents did not appear to be related, the commissioner said.

Mr. Richards said the force was able to adequately respond to both incidents, and an investigation is underway.

There were no suspects at time of writing, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shootings to call the V.I.P.D. at 340-778-2211, or contact the anonymous tips line Crime Stoppers USVI here.
