ST. CROIX — Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly strangling his girlfriend, V.I.P.D. Pubic Information Officer Glen Dratte announced late Sunday.
The suspect, 23-year-old Askia Richards, above, was charged with second-degree assault after he physically assaulted and strangled his girlfriend on Saturday, according to Mr. Dratte. No other information about the case was divulged.
Mr. Richards was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
Also on St. Croix, on Saturday at about 10:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to an establishment in the Castle Coakley area in reference to an armed robbery.
Upon officers arrival to the location, contact was made with several individuals, who stated that they were playing cards inside the establishment located near the Thomas Bakery (police did not release the establishment’s name), when three armed men dressed in all black came in demanding the victims’ money, jewelry and other personal items.
Mr. Dratte said the suspects took the victims’ belongings, however no one was hurt during the incident. Police are investigating the matter.
