ST. CROIX — All three suspects said to be involved in the East End Road rape incident that occurred here in May, are now in the custody of the Virgin Islands Police Department after the third suspect who had fled the island for the U.S. mainland, was returned to the territory by V.I.P.D. Criminal Investigation Detectives, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte. The Consortium learned of the suspect’s return late Saturday.
Hubert Wyliss Lee Jr., 22, who also goes by the moniker “blackest”, and is the third suspect in the rape incident was arrested by the U.S. Marshall Service in North Carolina in June, and brought back to the territory today.
He has been charged with first-degree rape, carrying or using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle, and first-degree robbery. Mr. Lee was unable to make bail of $500,000, and was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center, awaiting his advise-of-rights hearing.
Last month, Police Commissioner Delroy Richards revealed that the suspect’s info had been inserted in the National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.); a computerized index of criminal justice information (i.e.- criminal record history information, fugitives, stolen properties, missing persons), with both local and federal authorities having copies of the case.
The incident took place on the East End Road, according to police. Two females were driving when suddenly a white double cab truck rear-ended them, prompting the victims to stop the vehicle. One female stepped out of the vehicle and was taken by the three assailants elsewhere and raped. The second victim managed to escape, according to police.
Police thanked American Airlines for allowing its suspect to travel on the St. Croix-bound flight.
